Like Gordon, Boyd had great success as young as six-years old. Like Gordon, Boyd’s family moved their entire family just to provide a better racing environment. Like Gordon, Boyd won a number of races and championships before their teenage years. Boyd won an amazing 12 World Karting Association (WKA) Championships.

At 14 years of age, Boyd moved to the larger and faster Legends Cars. A fast learner, he was able to collect victories and championships, including the Rockingham Speedway (NC) titles in 2011 and again in 2012 along with his 23 wins in 43 starts (average finish 1.7), NC state championship, Touring Series championship and second in the INEX National Points standings.

In 2014, Spencer Boyd accepted a much taller challenge. Boyd graduated to competition at Hickory Motor Speedway, one of the most noted and challenging short track venues in the United States. Boyd was not intimidated by the step up, he won his first 6 starts and 8 of his first 10 starts on the way to winning the 2014 Hickory Motor Speedway Super Truck Championship.

Spencer drove the #48 Hendrick Dodge in the NASCAR Whelen Series Late Model division, winning 4 of the first 5 starts to the 2015 season. In addition, he ran the Super Late Model for Hendrick City Chevrolet in select races of the 2015 season in preparation for what was to come.

​

Spencer ran select races in 2016 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on mission to be approved to race at all tracks.  On April 2, 2016 Spencer made the biggest step of his young career by making his debut in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway.  He teamed up with fellow St. Louis native, MB Motorsports, and made waves by driving his No. 63 Go Parts Ram all the way up to 5th place at one point in the race.

In 2017, Spencer began the season piloting the No. 12 Chevrolet Silverado for Rick Ware Racing in the Camping World Truck Series with sponsor, Grunt Style, but soon jumped up to the Xfinity Series running the No. 07 Camaro for Bobby Dotter's SS Green Light Racing.  In all, Boyd competed in nine NASCAR races in 2017 with a best finish of 13th at Talladega.

Spencer Boyd competed full time in 2018 driving the No. 76 Grunt Style Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and finished fourth for 2018 most popular driver in his rookie season. 

 

In 2019 Boyd piloted the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Series with select starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.  He earned his first win in 2019 at Talladega.

Young's Motorsports extended Spencer's contract through the 2020 season.  It has been a year to remember with COVID-19 and being able to compete in a full schedule in the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverdo..

​

Spencer is an avid outdoorsman finding time to hunt and target shoot in between racing duties.  He continues to raise awareness for military Veterans, Police Officers, Firefighters, EMT's and all service men and women.
